Uh oh.... oops!!

This was a first...
When quilting, of course you lay it all out, make sure it everything is big enough, load it up and start quilting. I know I did that but look...

Got to the end, and I was SHORT batting... that's a first for me!

About 10" at that! Did some finagling and it all worked out. Shoved a piece in there, quick little stitches to hold in place and whoa-la...Phew.

Missed another homespun quilt that never got photographed.

This is Bonnie Hunters pattern and it's huge! Extra long.
It is extra long, I think I made it for the twin bed to be used as a blanket. You know, where it's long enough and it can snuggle up around your neck to where you don't pull it untucked from the bottom.

I think I may still have 2 more that missed the photo opp. I'll keep looking...

Here it is all washed and crinkly.
And then the housekeeper...
First let me say... my house is not dirty in no way...
They showed up about 11:00 for the first cleaning (deep cleaning) and did not leave till after 6:00. There were 3 of them coming and going throughout the day, the whole time. Have no idea why.. I didn't ask.
They did everything! Very professional. She's a keeper!
Then my hand... surgery was wonderful... still sore.. working on strength and flexibility now. Still off work, I feel good but there is a major project going on at work and I know I will screw my hand up if I try to do my job right now.
For anyone who is thinking or procrastinating about getting carpal tunnel release surgery done... do it. Night and day with results. I can't wait till get the left one done.

When I was cleaning up, I found this quilt and realized I never took a picture of it.

It's a mixture of leftover shirts from my dad and father-in-law and then some shirts I got at goodwill.
Then there's even some fabric from my stash that I had been collecting over the years.

It being washed as I type. And of course... it's Lolli approved!

House cleaner #2...

Well, the first one was a dud! She showed up late that should have tipped me off. There were A LOT of things not dusted. I noticed after she left, she didn't even picked things up and dust underneath. She used her little wand and went around things. I do that when in between my deep cleaning days. Didn't even go in laundry room. I'm sorry, this is decorated and used just as much as any other room in my house. My clothes come outa here, it better be clean.
I also noticed as walking around the bottom of my socks were black. I really don't think she mopped either. If she did, she used dirty water. I know I didn't see her pick up the chairs and go underneath. Grrrr
Then I go to jump in the shower.... SHE DIDNT CLEAN MY SHOWER!!!!!
Oh boy, she's gone. See ya!
Today I'm trying #2. She was the one I wanted originally, I thought she was expensive but I calculated wrong on my part.
So, we shall see how she does. I have good vibes today. Let's see how she does.
Cross your fingers.

I'm going through quilting withdrawals while here on recovery. Keep looking at all my blogs I follow trying to get some new ideas and it's making me sad knowing I can't get in there and cut some fabric up and sew yet.
So I went in my room and pulled this one outside to get a picture of it.

Started to fold it up and I turn around and there is Lolli, laying on it getting some sunshine.
Guess she thought I put it out there for her.

The last time my daughter-in -law was here, she discovered these little crackers from a friend.

Since she lives in Texas, she asked us to run to Costco to get some because that's where her friend got them. Costco didn't have them and the manager said no one near us had any either. So good ol' Mark... not wanting to disappoint... got on the internet and found the cookies for her.

I looked at the invoice and it was just shy of $40 for 2! HOLY CRAP!
They came in the mail, box was cover with like foreign languages. Philapeno, Japanese.. who knows...
The quantity... 2 packages, with 5 in each. Phew! Works out to about $3.00 a box.
Opened one, ate it, 2, the same, and so on. These are HIGHLY addictive. If you ever see them in Costco, grab them...
I'm gonna look for a little Philapeno market.. if that's what there called.. I could be wrong... but I bet they will have them.

This happened today.
Right carpel tunnel release.

Surgery was about 8 minutes they say. Don't remember a thing. Hand is still numb, will be for a couple days. Been sleeping all day long, that's good because I didn't sleep at all night before.

Lollipop has not left my side. Mark is taking great care of me. I'll keep you posted.

House cleaner....

It's been over 20 years since I have had a house cleaner. I'm old... tired of cleaning... DEEP cleaning. I went for it!
She is here now doing the DEEP cleaning and then back every 2 weeks. I am now looking forward to my weekends that I usually am cleaning one of those days. So I took the day off to be here, being her 1st time ... so I washed blankets, rugs, curtains.. I have NEVER done so much laundry that didn't involve clothes. Can't wait till it's all done. Then I'll have to figure out what to bring home for dinner because, I just can't dirty that kitchen on the same day! Hahhaha

Clock re-do...

One of our teachers has been asking for a clock for her classroom that works for a couple years. So when she came back this week, there was a clock sitting on her table.
This picture actually makes the clock look good. It is probably like 20 years old. As old as the school. It is yellowed, scratched cover, good layer of dirt and fly poop all over it.
REALLY!!?? We thought it was a joke. But no. They say it kept time. Hahaha.
I took it and made this.

I went and hung it up, let's see how long it takes her to notice it. I forgot to take a picture before I hung it up, that's why there's a glare on it.

Sew along...

This was a mystery sew along from "my Carolina Home" blog. I used scraps I had laying around. She will have it up on her blog for just a little while longer, then she's said she taking it down.

It was called scrap dance mystery two step. You can kinda see the darker squares , but then not so much.

It's a full size, turned out smaller than I thought it would. Oh well. Now I gotta go search for some backing.

2nd one...

Here is the other quilt I got back from the long arm quilter.

I almost didn't send it to her because I really didn't care for this quilt after I finished it. Not sure what is was about it, it just didn't get me excited.
But now, I love it, and I'm glad I did get it quilted.

It's ginormous. I believe it could fit on my queen size bed for a blanket.
Here's the label. I have never renamed a quilt to my own name. I have always named them the pattern name. I don't remember the name and the pattern is in the house and I'm outside. But it's something stupid. This quilt reminds me of peppermint candy cane, so I may go with something like that. I have always been bad at picking out & naming animals too... Anyone have any suggestions??

36 of them!
He adds 1 every year. Has done it for 36 years.
Love that guy! Happy Anniversary to us.

Just received this quilt back from the long arm quilter.
Found on Facebook, a long arm quilter named Betsy Pease, "sew imagine that"... from Louisiana.  Wonderful!
I had sent one other quilt to her before and she was wonderful to work with. So I sent her 2 more. And this is one of the 2.

Binding on and labeled. It's in the washer now. It's flannel on flannel and it is SUPER soft.. I do the sew on binding with the accent flange because my fingers don't last long sewing it in by hand. That's gonna change here soon..

Look Betsy up on Facebook. She did a fantastic job, turn around was spectacular and quilting was gorgeous. Prices were awesome also.  Give her a try. Tell her Donna sent you.
Now off to bind quilt #2

3 years old...

My little man is going to be 3 years old next week. That was the reason we went to Texas. My DIL was so gracious to move his party forward a couple weeks so that we could go. See, I had to start back to work this past Monday.. which is way to ridiculous.

There is no reason what so ever that we need to be there 3 weeks before the kids start. First 2 days I kept busy, but the rest of the week, I just twiddle my thumbs. I am a team player all the way, but now the girls in the front office EXPECT me to do their jobs. So I am not even going up there. They need to learn to do their own jobs in time allotted and if they can't, they need to tell someone.
There, I vented. Now back to JohnJohn.
Whenever he sees the camera, he automatically says "cheese".
Beautiful, relaxing day at the lake.
This guy LOVES to "schcoop" dirt. Gamma got him all set up!

We had a blast! Can't wait till we retire!

I have been there many times before, but this is the first since they turned the silos into an amazing shoppers wonderland.
I didn't take any pictures of the inside just because I had seen so many that others have taken.

The grounds, the shops, amazing! The bakery, I didn't even go there because the line was so long. Everyone was inside or in bakery line... kinda weird there's hardly anyone in they pictures.

We drove by a couple more of the fixer upper houses... (I've seen quite a few) even the one someone drove THRU! Google it, its quite a story.

Checkers anyone...

Kelly is here and we were playing around in the sewing room.

She did this one with wooden buttons.. super, super cute!
These are the 3 we made up.

Then we found these super cute tins and boxes to keep them in so all the pieces stay together.

Then we were done, we decided on doing one more... but ran out of material and can't finish it till Monday when Primitive Gatherings opens.. they are really cute, finished at about ten inches..

Holiday quilts...

This first one was quilted just in time for the 4th of July... its name is "liberty", measures 55x71 and designer is My Red Door Designs.
This next one is just a top, it's called "gingham stars"
It comes from this book. Holiday Wishes.
It measures 54x72...super cute, and super easy! There are lots of beautiful quilts in this book by the way. I just may have to put a couple of them on my wish list.
Why do the fur babies think that when you lay these out your doing it for them!? Silly pups!

Another homespun...

Or two...
I started out looking at all the leftovers from quilts I had from my dads shirts, my father in laws shirts, shirts I got at stash... I decided to make 1 more quilt. I picked my block based on the size of squares I had leftover, and it was a bear paw type block.
I drew out what I wanted...decided that I would make it 6x7 (blocks). Then at last minute I put in a sashing both inside of the block and in between each block.

It was gonna be HUGE! I wanted it big in order to use up the majority of my scraps, but it was gonna be too big. So I made 2, 5x5 quilts. I think each of my kids will enjoy a quilt that has pieces of their grandad and grandpa shirts in it.
After all that... I saved all my pieces that are 2" and bigger, I have enough to make 1 last one, and it's gonna look something like this! THEN, ALL my homespun scraps will be used up!
But first I have to get 1 more room cleaned up, which is my sewing room. I decided I am going to get a cleaning lady to come once a month. I am sick of spending my 2 days off from work (weekend)cleaning the house when I can be out doing other things. But I told myself, I have to get that room in order before I make that call!
