30 years ago I was in labor on New Years Eve day...went into the labor in the am, Dr's said it was gonna be a long night for me, I said "ya right..I dont think so!" 8 hrs later she was here. My Kelly has a BIG Birthday today! She wanted  to go to Seattle to spend her Birthday and celebrate New Years at the Space Needle. In the picture, she is getting ready to tour the city by seaplane..
Have an awesome Birthday weekend!! Love you lots... be safe, have fun!

fun Christmas fact...

.
The American custom of using electric lights began in 1882 when Edward Johnson an associate of Thomas Edison, hand-wired 80 red, white and blue bulbs and wound them around a rotating evergreen tree. Then, in 1895, President Grover Cleveland set up a lighted Christmas tree in the White House and the general public began to notice. So began the tradition.

Quilt from "HELL" !!!!

.
"Summer Breeze"...ordered in online, from a blog. This was literally  the quilt from hell!!! I started cutting it in beginning of November, discovered I was short on fabric. I had no fabric left over, so I know I didnt cut it wrong, she was great, sent it right out  to me. Then, working on it at the cabin, for the life of me, couldnt figure it out. Thought it was because it was about 2:00 in the am. So I threw it all back into the box and pulled it out at home about 2 weeks later. Sewed and took apart 3 TIMES!!! The directions were wrong. ARGGGHHHH. Looked  right each time until I looked closely a the picture. Finally finished it up this past week. It has NEVER taken me this long to sew a quilt together! NEVER!! I was kinda getting mad, because I couldnt work on anything else. That's my rule...never start a new project until I finish the one I already started.

potato bags..

Made potato bags this year. Pretty cool.. Wrap your washed, wet taters, wrapped in a paper towel in these little darlin's and they are steamed within a matter of minutes depending on how many you cook. These were made with 100% cotton fabric, thread, and batting (tater batting)..
(they can even double as a tortilla warmer... like 15 secs)

wreath..

.
Isnt this little quilt the cutest? It belongs to my good friend Sue. She took a class at a local quilt store and created this when she came away. Not very big, but when it is binded, she will have the best looking table topper around.

fabshophop

Have you ever heard of this? I did a couple of years ago, tried it and thought it was WAYY to much work. Well my friend Ann joined last month and won 2, $25.00 gift cert's, so I thought maybe I would give it another try. Signed up started looking and ya know, it was way easier than I remembered. Most websites that participate give you clues and tips to where you find the bunny, then just click and register and your on your way to the next one.
The concept behind the virtual shop hop is exactly the same as taking a fabric shopping trip by car. On your "virtual" shop hop, however, you'll leave the car in the garage and can even shop in your jammies! You will have 30 days to get around to over 100 of the sites.Tons of prizes too! I shopped all 186 stores and then signed Mark up too! Yesterday when it was pouring rain we hit all the shops again. So maybe between the 2 of us, we'll win something.
P.S. Made plenty of wish lists along the way and I did find something to buy also!

block of the month

The top above is my first block of the month I made 3 years ago.. All hand embroidered.
This is a picture of the last block of the month kit that I did in the past year. My center is done and I am just waiting on the borders to be delivered. My first BOM kit above was Christmas and was all hand embroidered stitchery, this one, the 2nd BOM, is done and it is all wool and just GORGEOUS!! I have just ordered my 3rd.
Here she is...
Isn't she GORGEOUS TOO!! This is made of fabric and applique. All my kits that I have ordered have been a challenge for me. Before I got them I had never done hand embroidery, worked with wool or even applique. Cant wait for the UPS man to come!!

Thimble-berries..

The new Thimble-berries Christmas book had this pattern in it and I new I just HAD to make it! There is probably another pattern or 2 that I can make in the book too.. I guess I had better, for the price I paid for the darn book! I could have ordered it online, but I gave a friend the business with her new shop. Turned out super cute! Just have to go and wash it now and it will be ready to use like the day after Thanksgiving...
Look at the quilting pattern... matches perfect to the borders which is also on the back. Love it!!

a big, BIG, TA-DA!!!!!

Well, she's finally finished! Ramblin' Rose meets.. ? , it's been so long I forgot the name. I gave and mailed  the pattern away to a fellow blogger who saw it and asked for it. Haven't heard from her, hope she got it ok.  I believe it's Ramblin' Rose meets Jamestown. Pictures have a little shadow on them from the trees.
She's a doozy! Queen size! I had to pay to have her quilted because she is so big, she wouldn't fit on my machine. After paying what I did, I am truly thankful for Marian for letting me store her machine in my upstairs room and use it as needed!! Thank you!!
She has taken many, many months to sew and many, more months to get quilted and about a week to put the binding on! Well. not quite a week.. but I had to take breaks in between because my darn fingers kept going numb and fingers falling asleep!

ta-da..

This is just one of many things that I have been working on lately. I finally quilted and put the binding on this one, and also the baby one I made from the leftovers of this.
Caught up on all my wool blocks...sewed the binding on Ramblin' Rose, working on sewing it down now. Finally pieced and put together my raw edge friendship group blanket, this one I still have to find the right shade of green for the binding.
And many more little things that piled up while I was gone on vacation..
3 weeks till we go to the cabin, 4 weeks till Kelly comes for Thanksgiving week and and then comes Christmas vacation! YAHOO!!  Can you tell What I'm looking forward to?? vacations and NO WORK!!!!

Konrad's Baptism..

Busy weekend in Orange County....My sister Jackie and her husband Lenny came for a visit from MA this last week to visit with family  and celebrate some exciting family occasions. Her youngest son Jeff, and his new fiance, Stefanie, had an engagement party Saturday night, which I didn't get any pictures of silly me! Then on Sunday her oldest son Erik and his wife Anita, celebrated the Baptism of their son Konrad. Which I did remember to snap some pictures!
The above picture is of Chris, (Erik's dad), Erik holding Konrad and then my sister Jackie.

Jackie, Lenny and Konrad... Proud Grandma and Grandpa!

Outdoor quilt shows are the best! This is just a small portion of all the quilts that were on display. A good time was had by all, even if it was almost 100 degrees!!!
